Our Mission
Our mission is to provide access to proper education, health, and development for children, youth and women of rural and financially weak communities. Core to our philosophy is offering a platform for youth, children and women towards their personal and professional growth, especially people from a rural background and an economically weaker section of the society.

Through our activities and engagement programs, we create learning opportunities, assistance in financing education, and platform to support a Future without bounds (an Unbound Futures) for youth, children, and women of the society.

Our Beginning
After retiring from the Army, the quiet life in the Hills of Darjeeling was not Col Pradhan’s idea of retirement and so he decided to settle down in Delhi. Having an adventure in his blood, he went on to open his own adventure tour company managing guests from different countries.

Be in the service, or as an entrepreneur, the love for Darjeeling remained strongly rooted in Col. Pradhan’s mind. That is when he began promoting Darjeeling to his tourists, which later brought in many volunteers as well as charity donors too.

“Initially, when I started taking foreign tourists to Bijanbari, my village in rural Darjeeling, people, especially children used to be excited to see foreign people in their village. Then it became a regular affair as more and tourists started showing up in the village, sometimes even as teachers, and helpers. I noticed that for the school children, it was both exciting and completely new experience to interact with new people, and learning about them.”

Since then the Volunteer project took off and we went on to support 30 students. However, it wasn’t enough to put the kids in a school as they didn’t have a conducive environment at home. The need to provide extra help with academics and counselling gave birth to the Integrated Learning Centre. This is one central place where the children get help with not only academics but also general guidance and counselling. Their parents also get counselling as and when needed. We would love to have our own hostel facility where we can house students from the most remote places. Volunteers could also be accommodated in the facility to provide a richer learning experience for the resident students.

However, in the absence of a proper hostel facility, and without much means of his own, we initially attempted to operate through the rented facility, which was not sustainable. Currently, some students are accommodated as paying guests as there are no hostels in the area.

Our founders:
Colonel S. Pradhan: is a retired Indian Army Officer, adventure travel consultant, and a well-known social personality. As part of his social responsibilities, Col Pradhan, along with his family has been supporting academic and education support for poor children from rural places of Darjeeling. Starting in 2004, the family has supported over thirty students, with some students in colleges and high schools.

Roshni Pradhan: Following her father’s footsteps, she has been keen to work with the community in Bijanbari. At present she spends half a year in the village, looking after the children’s welfare, working out solutions and taking care of everything. Today, Roshni switches between Darjeeling and Delhi every quarter trying to make sure everything is right – the school’s fees are paid, the kids are helped with studies, food and accommodation, raising funds, meeting schools and teachers for scholarships, and everything to make it possible for the students to study.
